The procedure for obtaining citizenship

One can obtain Armenian citizenship on the basis of ethnicity, place of residence, marriage, or exceptionally.

To obtain citizenship, you must visit the Passport and Visa Department of RA Police (OVIR), and to the Embassy or Consular office in foreign countries.

Required documents.

Application, passport and copy of passport, 6 color photographs (35 x 45 mm), birth certificate and copy of birth certificate, marriage certificate and copy of marriage certificate, spouse's passport and copy of spouse's passport or spouse's citizenship certificate, birth certificate of the child and copy of the birth certificate of the child, a document confirming the Armenian nationality, a receipt for payment of the state duty.

Application Review.

An application for citizenship will normally be processed in 3 to 6 months. It will be reviewed by RA Police, the National Security Service, the Foreign Ministry, the Citizenship Committee and the Prime Minister's Office before the President signs the citizenship decree.

If you are a male below the age of 50 you will have to register with the military office. The military registration procedure lasts 1-3 days.

To obtain a passport of an RA citizen and an ID card, one must visit the Passport and Visa Department of the RA Police (OVIR), sign the text of the oath and obtain documents.
