2018 Pan-Armenian Awards for Notable Contributions to Preservation of the Armenian Identity

Dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and the May Heroic Battles and to the 2,800th anniversary of the foundation of Yerevan

Within the scope of the 2018 Pan-Armenian Awards for Notable Contributions to Preservation of the Armenian Identity, the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia announces the terms and conditions for participation in the following categories:

  1. “Defender of the Mother Language” (for organizations), application form (in Armenian)
  2. Best Armenian School, application form (in Armenian)
  3. Children’s Works Competition (topics: “Erebouni-Yerevan 2800” and “From Sardarapat to Artsakh”)

The goal of the Pan-Armenian Awards for Notable Contributions to Preservation of the Armenian Identity is to encourage the contributions that organizations, various groups and individuals have made to the preservation and development of the Armenian identity in the Diaspora, as well as value and appreciate the activities of Armenian communities in this direction.

  1. The goal of the “Defender of the Mother Language” (for organizations) competition is to encourage Diaspora Armenian organizations that make great contributions to the preservation and dissemination of the Armenian language, help young Armenians think and speak in Armenian, provide young Armenians with an Armenian education and upbringing and contribute to the enhancement of literary and art life in the Diaspora.

The competition is open to pan-Armenian organizations of the Diaspora, community organizations, as well as Armenological, scientific, educational and cultural institutions in the Diaspora. Importance is attached to activities for preservation of the Armenian identity and language, especially the fruitful programs and events and initiatives carried out and the literary and linguistic studies and books published throughout the past three years, as well as the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and the May Heroic Battles and to the 2,800th anniversary of the foundation of Yerevan.

  1. The goal of the Best Armenian School competition is to encourage Armenian daily and one-day schools, language training groups and clubs, centers and course organizers making notable contributions to help preserve and develop the Armenian national identity, provide generations of Armenians with an Armenian education and upbringing and hold programs for national preservation, as well as to promote the creation of those schools, groups, clubs and centers and the activities for national preservation. Importance is attached to the programs and events dedicated to the two major pan-national anniversary events in 2018, including the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia and the May Heroic Battles and the 2,800th anniversary of the foundation of Yerevan.
  2. The goal of the “Erebouni-Yerevan 2800” and “From Sardarapat to Artsakh” Children’s Works competition (paintings, sculptures, songs, musical compositions, essays, poems, short stories, essays) is to foster the formation and enhancement of feelings of patriotism, national self-awareness and historical and cultural awareness and is dedicated to the 2,800th anniversary of the foundation of Yerevan and the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Armenia.

When submitting the works, applicants must indicate the name, last name and age of the author, the title of the work, the supervisor, the country and city of residence, e-mail and phone number, as well as the name of the school, cultural institution, children’s center, art school or club that the author of the particular work attends or is a member of (incomplete applications will not be accepted).

The competitions will be held in two stages:

  1. Communities and educational and cultural institutions hold the first stage of the competitions, and the best works are sent to the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic of Armenia.
  2. In the second stage, the contest committees established by the Ministry will evaluate the works and announce the winners.

Besides the “Erebouni-Yerevan 2800” and “From Sardarapat to Arstakh” Children’s Works contest, the other two competitions— “Defender of the Mother Language” (for organizations) and Best Armenian School — are not open to the award recipients of the past three years (recipients of the 1st and 2nd degree awards).

THOSE WISHING TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITIONS MUST SUBMIT THEIR APPLICATIONS TO THE RA MINISTRY OF DIASPORA BY DECEMBER 1, 2018.

The results of the competitions will be summed up between December 2018 and January 2019.

Applicants must attach the following to their applications:

-document on education (copy);

-letter of recommendation from a community, organization or school (with approved seal and signature of supervisor);

-description of activity of application for each category;

-materials, including videos that will show evidence of the programs that the applicant has carried out for preservation of the Armenian identity.

The contest committees may contact an applicant with the request to receive additional materials, books, publications, DVDs, photos and other additional materials that cover the applicant’s activities.

The submitted applications will be examined by the professional contest committees.

Information regarding announcement of the results and the solemn award ceremony for the 2018 Pan-Armenian Awards for Notable Contributions to Preservation of the Armenian Identity will be posted on the official website of the RA Ministry of Diaspora at www.mindiaspora.am or on Hayern Aysor electronic newspaper (www.hayernaysor.am).
