New York to host traditional “Hey Jan, Ghapama!” Festival

According to Hayern Aysor, on November 5, the traditional “Hey Jan, Ghapama!” Armenian autumn festival will be solemnly held at the St. Sarkis Armenian Apostolic Church in New York. Participants will be treated to Ghapama (Armenian stuffed pumpkin dish) made in a special way, and the festival will feature performances by Armine Vardanyan’s Areni Armenian Choir.

Ghapama is a traditional Armenian dish that is more often prepared for the New Year celebration and Easter. Ghapama was made during friendly gatherings and rituals and was particularly an integral part of the dishes set on tables during weddings. It is a pumpkin stuffed with rice, dried fruits, raisins, walnuts, honey and other ingredients.
