Two medals granted on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Independence of the two Armenian republics

Armenian American painter and community activist Daniel Varoujan Hejinian has been awarded with the Medal of Gratitude by the President of the Republic of Armenia and the Gold Medal of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia by the Speaker.

In September 2016, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh, electronic banners were raised in different cities of the State of Massachusetts.

The creator of the electronic banners was Armenian American painter and community activist Daniel Varoujan Hejinian. In September, Hejinian was in Armenia to participate in the events dedicated to Independence Day.

The banners portray the Cascade Complex of Yerevan (with the symbol of renaissance), Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial, Mount Ararat and the triumphant eagle with wings in the color of the national flag of Artsakh (with this, the painter portrays the liberation of Artsakh, which is the greatest achievement of the Armenian nation).

“On behalf of myself and the Peace of Art organization (www.peaceofart.org), I congratulate everyone on the 25th anniversary of Independence of Armenia and Artsakh by raising 6 electronic banners at the busiest highways of the State of Massachusetts, with the desire to engage Diaspora Armenians and foreign nationals in the celebrations dedicated to the Independence of the twin republics taking place in Armenia and Artsakh and strengthen the bonds between Armenia and the Diaspora,” founding president of Peace of Art organization (www.peaceofart.org) Daniel Varoujan Hejinian said.

Established in 2003 in the State of Massachusetts, Peace of Art organization (www.peaceofart.org) is a non-profit educational organization that uses the universal language of art to promote the peaceful settlement of conflicts, accepting as a basis the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the increase of Armenia’s reputation abroad. By frequently raising such banners, the organization promotes the strengthening of Armenia-Diaspora relations. Among the banners are the banner raised to welcome RA President Serzh Sargsyan’s visit to Boston, the banner dedicated to the Four-Day War in Artsakh, the banner entitled “Support the Peaceful Settlement of the Conflict in Artsakh” and the banner with the website created by the Government of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic to support Artsakh.

On September 20, by the decree of President Serzh Sargsyan, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia, Daniel Varoujan Hejinian was awarded with the Medal of Gratitude by the RA President for his contributions to the strengthening of Armenia-Diaspora relations and preservation of the Armenian identity and his outstanding achievements in the spheres of culture and the arts. Hejinian was also awarded with the Gold Medal of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia for his services provided to the homeland. The Gold Medal was granted to Hejinian by RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan on 11 October.

It should also be mentioned that in 2015, on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Armenia, Daniel Varoujan Hejinian was awarded with the Movses Khorenatsi Medal by the RA President for his pro-national acts. In 2014, he received the Arshile Gorky Medal of the RA Ministry of Diaspora on the occasion of his personal exhibition organized by the RA Ministry of Diaspora at the National Gallery of Armenia.
