Coordinating committee for the establishment of “New Aleppo” district holds session

The coordinating committee for the establishment of the “New Aleppo” district for Syrian-Armenians in Ashtarak city held a session at the RA Ministry of Diaspora on August 14th.

RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan expressed gratitude to all the organizations and individuals supporting the establishment of the “New Aleppo” district and gave special thanks to all the architects who have worked on designing the plan for the district.

Chief Architect of Yerevan Tigran Barseghyan introduced the main plan for construction of the “New Aleppo” district for Syrian-Armenians in Ashtarak city and mentioned that the 4.8 hectare area allocated in Ashtarak has been designed as a city district with 4-5-story buildings and a residential complex with green areas.

Co-chair of the Pan-Armenian Association of Architects Vahe Tutundjian mentioned that participation in the planning of the district serves as a good opportunity for Armenian and foreign experts to collaborate and exchange their experiences. “I think this program sets the best example of the Armenia-Diaspora partnership,” said Tutundjian.

Inventor of the new type of stone for construction Mkayel Hamamjyan talked about problems with the speedy construction and the new type of stone, after which the participants of the session watched a film about the advantages of homes built with the new type of stone, particularly the weight of the stone, its maintenance and seismic level.

Newly appointed chairman of the State Committee on Architecture Narek Sargsyan mentioned that the “New Aleppo” district will have a modern architectural solution, which will not only be attractive, but also suitable and perspective in terms of its style and beauty.

President of the “Coordination Center for Syrian-Armenians’ Issues” NGO Lena Haladjian talked about the new applications submitted by Syrian-Armenians. “Syrian-Armenians abroad are applying to settle in Armenia as well,” said the NGO President.

Summing up the session, the RA Minister of Diaspora set deadlines to speed up the process.
