2015 “Ari Tun” Program: Milena Adamyan: “For me, Armenia and Komitas are identical, thanks to my mother”

Milena Adamyan, 13, is from Moscow. She has visited Armenia several times, but this year she decided to participate in the “Ari Tun” Program. For many years now, she has been spending her summer vacation in the homeland with her grandparents, but participating in the program is like being in a new world, a new environment, a new family, meeting new people and making new friends, as well as having new thoughts and emotions.

Milena has managed to visit Armenia’s historical and cultural sites and other sites worth seeing more or less and admires them. “Armenia is very beautiful with its rich history and culture. I’m especially impressed with the temple in Garni and the Zvartnots Temple.”

It’s amazing that the 13-year-old girl was charmed by Komitas and his music. “For me, Armenia and Komitas are identical. My mother has told me about Komitas Vardapet. I took her advice and now listen to Komitas’s songs, even though I still can’t see what’s hidden in those melodies.” Milena also knows about the Armenian Genocide and says being at Tsitsernakaberd has always been her big dream.

She regrets to mention that she can’t attend an Armenian school since the school is very far from her house. “However, my parents do everything they can to make sure my sister and I learn about our roots and preserve our national identity. They provide us with an Armenian upbringing.”

In spite of all this, Milena sincerely admits that she can’t always speak Armenian at home, adding that she’s very happy that her days in Armenia start with Armenian language lessons.

Little Milena says she likes Armenian cuisine a lot. She has tasted almost every dish and only sets aside the Spas that her grandmother makes.

Milena only admires the “Ari Tun” Program. “I’m having a great time. I’ve made new friends from Georgia and Russia and hope to make friends with children and youth from other countries. When I return to Moscow, I’ll suggest that my friends in Russia visit Armenia and participate in the “Ari Tun” Program.”

Milena has many dreams, but her big dream is to become a lawyer. She plans on continuing her studies in Moscow and assures that after that she will try to take part in the reinforcement of the Homeland.
